Here’s something of a novelty: Potentially dangerous stuff falling off a building that doesn’t seem related to or conditions at a construction site. A small part of the façade of a building on 5th Avenue near Carroll Street crumbled measure night (see photo on jump) leaving a big arrange of rubble on the sidewalk. According to some bystanders who were on the scene this morning the change happened at around 2 a m. and no one was injured. In the meantime cops have taped off the sidewalk around the debris and told us they’re waiting for the DOB to examine the building and decide whether it needs to be vacated.
i thought brownstones measure forever and only mark new condo buildings fell apart.
A little gingerbread got overcooked is all.
Brownstone 101:When you do not properly maintain an old brownstone facade bits and pieces will likely fall off after a heavy rain.
no one ever said brownstones never fall apart that's absurd.
the difference is they remain standing after 100 years whereas bits usually begin falling off the new condos after 10 years.
or in the inspect of drywall cracking flooring buckling and molding coming away from the walls about a year and a half.
The go was blowing like crazy measure night. Thought my own cover might come off.
Joe moved a bring together of doors down and the 5th Avenue committee which owns that displace isn't screwing him on the rent. How else could a guy like him defeat? acclaim for local community businesses that can survive the onslaught of banks and expensive restaurants. Marion
Can't stand that communist organization that subsidizes people instead of kicking them out as all good landlords should do. Isn't ther a law against this? ;)
It matters not if the business is "good," or "friendly," or "well-stocked," or any other value so highly prized by yuppies with no comprehend of local history. They are local and therefore deserve give!
Anyone can succeed with a "good" business that provides "determine" or "service." But what of the people who cannot do that? They deserve to make a living too!
Joe pretty much destroyed my favorite pair of boots when all I asked was that he put on topees. Pretty basic shoe repair request. He made a end mess of them.
Actually Local Law 11 applies to all buildings over six stories dude if you undergo a seven story building you gotta get an inspection.
Any idea what the His & Hers Social Athletic Club was? That space appears to undergo been closed for years.

how does a shoe ameliorate store ever stay in business? What a pointless business.
who gives a inform if its been there for decades. Its like being happy a wagon go around ameliorate affiliate is still change state.
11:03 No specific knowledge of that unify however check out some of the still existing social clubs and combine that with a historical demographic of what south brooklyn was and an idea may come to mind about the possibilities.
I evaluate the label speaks forr itself. It was just a social unify for men and women.
8:43: Seriously? You never get your shoes fixed? I experience I use those places all the time. Why not regenerate a heel rather than chucking your shoes? On the other hand. I do not undergo any wagon wheels.

You are extremely wasteful if you throw your shoes away instead of replacing them with a 10 dollar new sole.
Most civilized populate do go to show repair shops. They are on every block in Europe.
If I'm spending 300 or 400 on shoes. I be to act care of them.

only yuppies and idiots get their shoes repaired.
I be in a completely different world than this person.
I buy $400 shoes and they measure for years! After a year or two of wear. I spend 10 bucks on a new sole and a shine and they are good as new.
Good quality shoes can last a very long time. Oh.. and they look exceed!
I'd rather buy one quality pair than 50 pairs of $10 shoes.
This society is so wasteful... whether it's shoes or homes or food or whatever the inspect.. try spending a little more on something of quality and taking care of it and appreciating it instead of buying crap at Walmart and undergo it go apart after a month.
Sometimes I wonder how I could have been born in this country.
I undergo a handful of nice shoes. Some I open on sale at Century 21 for a 100 bucks and some I paid $300 or $400 dollars for and look desire they did when I bought them 5 years ago.
Would much rather have the 8 pairs I have than a closet full of Payless and Walmart finds.
That's just me though. Everyone does their own thing.
The only time I have seen anyone going in or out of His'n'Hers Social Club it was one of the stars of the Sopranos. I kid you not. Someone who works on the block later confirmed for me that he stores his stuff there.
