"HOLDEN GEMINI" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 22:15:39

The Holden Gemini was GM-H’s version of the parent company’s World Car but thankfully it was a version significantly re-engineered for Australian conditions. Gemini replaced the small TA Torana. Initially the car should undergo been an adaption of the German Opel Kadett but GM-H wanted something more suited to the local market and a joint development with GM’s Japanese partner Isuzu produced the Australian/Asian version of the T-car. In Australia GM-H coded the Holden Gemini the TX which was planned as a counter to the steadily growing Japanese domination of the small car sector. Importantly the Gemini offered a real alternative to the totally Japanese-developed small cars. In the planning stages GM-H influenced many areas of the eventual design. Some of these included improved ventilation re-designed door and be seals suspension settings and brake specifications. The engine was a 1584cc Isuzu-built motor which produced about 74.6kW of power at 6000 rpm and revved easily and with the Gemini’s power-to-weight ratio of 11.7kW/kg resulted in good performance and a relatively low fuel consumption. Road tests at launch suggested a evaluate of 7.4 litres per 100km was feasible. These tests also indicated good acceleration times reaching 100km/h from be in 12.7 seconds and covering the standing 400 metre run in 18.7 seconds. Stopping this 880kg flyer was no problem either. The power-boosted disc/drum system pulled the Gemini up measure and again without fade or loss of efficiency. Tests at launch also suggested that no sign of rear wheel lock-up occurred and straight line braking was impressive. GM-H has always made a point of ensuring that car suspension performed well and this was certainly the case with the Gemini. The four-link concept adapted to a small car create by mental act with the upper cerebrate removed and a panhard rod fitted to resist lateral movement of the approve axle certainly worked well in the Gemini and soon gave it a reputation as a very safe handling small car. There was sufficient spring travel to soak up bumps and corrugations and the rack and pinion steering was light and enjoin. A version of the GM-H three-speed automatic was especially developed for the Gemini being operated by a central T-bar and the car pulled well in the mid-range and top end. The four-speed manual had very close ratios and a light easy movement with positive short travel shifts. Despite the very conventional design of the Gemini which made for easier servicing and lower maintenance.

"Track-car Racing?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 17:40:03

It's been decided. Instead of modifying my C4 (and possibly change surface the future 300C) for performance. I'm going to buy a cheap go car and let out the racing urges with that. I had a poke around and I can choose up a nicely modified Gemini for six thousand dollars totally track-ready. No skyrocketing insurance for a modified car no massive loss if I crash it no loss of a day-to-day driver. All the obvious appeal however I didn't know how cheap ready-to-go racers actually were! So. I throw the question out to all Aussie members involved with bring in racing do I need to enter with CAMS if I'm only racing casually and where do I go about registering a bring in car for limited road use? Apparantly you can get a rego that's limited to weekend use driving to the bring in and back. What kind of requirements are there for these licenses? It's been decided. Instead of modifying my C4 (and possibly change surface the future 300C) for performance. I'm going to buy a cheap circuit car and let out the racing urges with that. I had a poke around and I can pick up a nicely modified Gemini for six thousand dollars totally track-ready. No skyrocketing insurance for a modified car no massive loss if I crash it no loss of a day-to-day driver. All the obvious appeal however I didn't experience how cheap ready-to-go racers actually were! So. I throw the challenge out to all Aussie members involved with track racing do I be to register with CAMS if I'm only racing casually and where do I go about registering a track car for limited road use? Apparantly you can get a rego that's limited to weekend use driving to the track and approve. What kind of requirements are there for these licenses? To start out you need to be a member of an club that is registered with cams. MG car unify is the one at $80 a years (you do not be to own an MG). You can then bear on for your S2 licence that ordain allow you to enter sprint meetings and time trials. You just fill out the create and pay the money less than a $100. This is a good way to get a start and try it out with out getting in the way of every body. After six months or so once you undergo perfected your skills you can grade. Your car needs to comply with cams regs. Extra bonnet catch, blast extinguisher etc (see Cams webs sit). You will be a compliant helmet and gloves etc. For the next aim of racing you will also need a race suit. For road registered cars you have to have a ctp extension to go which you can get remove from your ctp verify on a go by race application in person at your nearest insurance outlet. I hill arise and run a BMW Z3 which is great fun. The next aim of racing is not cheap as to be competitive you be to keep upgrading. I suggest you start out and have some fun and see if you get the bug before spending a fortune As JXQ said join a club.. costs copulate all and you get a CAMS license for a year PLUS club bring in days are a heap of fun! something to remember - racing is a drug.. you'll be hooked sooo easy so maybe believe spending more money on a car that ordain be exceed in the desire run. Ive got a pair of nissan silvias at domiciliate parts are dead easy to get (and cheaply) and they are a great bring in car... plenty of cater too.. also comes down to the sort of racing you want to do.. drag circuit time contend motokhana drift forge arise... make sure you get the right car... i spent years in the do by car - and wished id done my research better in the begining. Risk My store: Chrysler 300C 5.7 V8 HEMI - color.. big pimpin'Nissan 300zx V6 agree Turbo - color.. oh so quick!Nissan Silvia RB20 - Red.. track pigNissan Silvia CA18 - Black... Drift baby! come up. I've been poking around on MY105 com and spotted a ready-to-go Gemini 2.0L for $6800. exclaim intakes. Weber carbs solid diff stripped interior and a beat rollcage. It could be fitted with the bare minimum of street-legal fittings (brake lights headlights blinkers etc) as I don't want to incur the costs of a trailer and as I mentioned I've heard of 'limited use' registrations that accept you to control the car on the street to the track and back. What would you guys advise as a good 'starting' car and race class? I evaluate this Gemini would be versatile enough for some basic go racing and if 'forge climb' is driving around winding tracks with lots of vertical traverse. I'm all for it. Personally my shopping list would be: Casual go work / drifting / drags Nissan Silvia - cheap and is a good all rounder More serious go work GTR - R32 GTR's are damn cheap at the moment.. yes they are getting old but if your not using it everyday that can be a cost-effective track weapon! EVO - mmmmmmm evo! buy one and own the bring in!! *thinks about buying one* WRX - another 4wd that is coming down in cost... So in my opinion if $ was the study calculate id buy a Silvia/180SX.. if you have alittle more money id be at a GTR or EVO... at the end of the day everyones tastes are different so get something you can be passionate about... assay definately a silvia or 180 are good buys for a bring in car you can pick up for $6g not a prob i personally would steer clear a little only because of its age and constant servicing when being dedicated for the bring in i would like something N/A desire a sprinter yes i know it isnt as quick but given to the right person can definatley beat the above mentioned cars but hit for buck definatley something japanese. definately a silvia or 180 are good buys for a bring in car you can pick up for $6g not a prob i personally would steer alter a little only because of its age and constant servicing when being dedicated for the track i would like something N/A desire a sprinter yes i know it isnt as quick but given to the right person can definatley defeat the above mentioned cars but bang for endeavor definatley something japanese. Bahahahahahaha! My C4 eats 180's for LUNCH! The only ones that I wouldn't take on are the top-model ones with psychotic turbo and cam kits. change surface some of the modded lower-model 180's don't end the 180hp mark and I'm getting that N/A! Personally I'd love to get my hands on an RX-7 for about <$5000 something desire a Gen 5 or 6. Preferably have so I experience what I'm working with. The gemini was worth consideration as it has worthwhile mods and is track-ready. The car would definately be used for more casual racing maybe get into more serious stuff at a later stage but at the moment I just want a cheap car (so it doesn't cause to be perceived as much if I crash) that I can displace mods into without annoy from dealers and insurance and legally drive it like it's stolen.
