The response to my about walking the next month was so overwhelming that I’m posting again with answers to the questions that I got by web and email. Yes. I’m going to go.  Or at least go the little survivor trolley down to the finish line. No. I don’t experience what to expect.  This is my first time!  But I hear that it’s an incredible experience (similar to Relay for Life and the Avon go for Breast Cancer) and I’m eager to experience it. Yes. I would be thrilled if you’d walk for me in the race come you.  Let me know and I’ll put your name and picture up on to recognize all the work that you’re doing to help me get the word out about the silent killer! Yes it would be awesome to meet up at the Baltimore (Hunt Valley. MD) race on October 14.  I’ll be the one in the pink shirt.  (Kidding.  Every survivor will be wearing a go shirt and there will be thousands of us!  I’ll be wearing a lighten pink of cover!)  I’ll also be happy to meet you someplace that we both can find — it’s so sweet of you to ask! Yes we can go together (here’s an easy link to  if you don’t undergo a aggroup already).  I’m not asking for anything special or even for you to sponsor me in the walk.  I’m not a fundraiser and I know how hard it is for many of us to alter ends meet.  What I want is for populate to comprehend about inflammatory breast cancer.  That’s why I’m doing this.  That’s why I’m blogging publicly about my private response to inflammatory breast cancer.  Right down to. I am walking too–in the family walk with my preserve and the kids in strollers. Well not my husband in a stroller…you know what I mean. Anyway. I joined the Team WhyMommy team place when I registered for the walk…I ordain be getting us Team WhyMommy shirts for the day too. I hope to see you there…if Team WhyMommy has a meeting sight please let us experience where it is! My friend Boo will be playing violin in your honor for an upcoming concert. I’ll have to get you the details but I thought you would be to know there is writing walking and now music all being done to raise awareness for IBC and in your recognise. No way! Now I’m change surface more cross with myself. I wanted to run for you in the go in Ptld. OR but our lives are still in such turmoil (we’re still living out of suitcases in friends’ basement) that I never got myself organized. I was already mad at myself and now I find out I could undergo met your brother and we could undergo been a team for you! Excpet that I wouldn’t undergo run. Nope not me. I’m more of the walking type. Oh. I’d just like to come and participate with you in the Baltimore run… It would take something akin to magic to make it possible but it would be SO wonderful to take part with you. Whymommy!! Just so you experience my three girls and I will be walking in our public school’s Terry Fox walk/run for the Canadian Cancer Society on Friday afternoon. I’ll be pinning a big “Whymommy” write on our stroller just for you… and telling everyone I can about IBC. Great to see your Bro. Haven’t seen him since he was maybe 14. The only pictures your mom ever shows me are of the grandbabies! He was always a great guy so it’s not surprising that he’d do this in his “spare measure.” But then he’s got a pretty great sister! You might say this is a family trait. I wish I had known! I’ve been following your communicate and we just did a walk on the 16th in NJ for breast cancer! My son walked for his grandma who passed away from Breast Cancer and my daughter. 6 months. “walked” for her great grandpa who is a survivor! My husband and I walked for anyone and everyone so we were walking for you!!Thanks for sharing! Everytime I think I don’t want to get up at the freakin crack of dawn again to train. I think of people like you. I think of populate in the world who have breast cancer who are actively fighting it and who go in the 3-Day anyway. And of course I’m amazed. And humbled. And I get my lazy butt out of bed and I go. convey you for re-inspiring me. With 31 days until the Arizona 3Day. I need a little push! Oh and I’ve done this 3 times before. "My bald head and I are going places" posted by ~Ray

Then. I learned to look beyond the stares to see what people were really looking at.  And there was more often than not a kindness in their eyes. They might have stared at first but then they saw me really me who I was just a mom trying to shop with two little boys and their eyes softened.  Today. I didn’t leave the house but oddly move of the world came to me.  FOX News came to visit (Hi. Beth!  Hi. Lance!) and they stayed for a little while.  They took footage of me talking about inflammatory breast cancer the signs the symptoms and why it’s so important to be checked out right away if you notice a change in one of your breasts.  We talked about the hard parts of having cancer and my day off from cancer last week.  They took footage of my little boys playing with trucks and teddy bears and they took footage of me blogging. Okay that last bit was a bit lame.  But how often have YOU liveblogged on camera?  This was the first time for me and it was quite something!  It was so cool that they were here! The segment(s) will air on Fox later this month.  I’ll let you know more when I do! Edited to clarify: The visitors today were the local Fox 5 News special projects crew — not the cable guys.  Sorry to be unclear.  I’ll definitely post a link if it goes up on their web site as part of their breast cancer awareness month footage! Too cool! Too bad I don’t undergo a TV to watch it on. But if you let us all know when it will air I ordain be sure to go to a friend’s accommodate! It is truly amazing the way you are reaching out farther and farther in your quest to educate people. Speaking of hats mine is off to you! Hmmmm must check if I have Fox news??? You are doing so much WhyMommy you are getting the word out! I undergo some beautiful tags a friend of mine made for me with WhyMommy on it. All regarding Breast Cancer Awareness. I would love to send them to you if that would be ok? E-mail me if you are intersted. I am so glad you reached that point. Reached the point that you could see beyond the stares to the softness the understanding the kindness. It has been there all along you just stopped looking too soon. But now you know. So now you ordain understand that your support network is bigger than you realize. It is not just your friends and playgroup. It is not just names in red on your blog. It is people who are REALLY anonymous people you see at the mall or on the street or in the park. People who ordain never.

We're starting converge Cancer Awareness Month. In honor of that I'd desire to enjoin you to at Parent Dish. Heather Craven and do a wonderful job of shining a light on our rarely seen Inflammatory converge Cancer. I would only like to add that not only does a breast not have to have a accumulate to undergo cancer.. but there also does not have to be skin changes to be Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC). My IBC did not show as the picture in the article. Oh one breast was grossly larger than the other all right. However it was NOT red. Nor was the skin thickened or orange peely nor itchy. In fact. I had no climb changes whatsoever until the evening before my first chemo treatment (3.5 months after I first noticed a hardness in the center of my breast). Even then my breast was only the slightest bit go - not change surface as pink as when I get a hot consume. My advise to any woman is simply this: If there are any changes in your breast whatsoever - particularly if it is in one breast and not both - see your adulterate. Or... If you... feel a certain heaviness that was not there before Any and all of these symptoms are not normal. An unnaturally high number of IBC diagnosis' are of women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Today is also the end of the Federal Government's Fiscal Year. Also known as The Day Imstell Gets Her Life Back. Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My name is Stella. I'm 41 married and be in a sewerless small town on the central glide of California with my preserve. Daddy-O and our sons. B & D who are 7 & 2. I am also a breast cancer survivor. B has enough natural energy to cater the Pacific Time Zone and he's not afraid to use it. D has Norrie's - a rare genetic disease which caused him to be born blind. It's a crazy life but I can't complain any more than usual.

"Herceptin Eradicates Tumours And May Reduce Mastectomy Need In ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-06 01:26:37

New data show that the addition of Herceptin® (trastuzumab) to chemotherapy prior to breast cancer surgery (neoadjuvant therapy) completely eradicates tumours in nearly three times as many women with inflammatory HER2-positive breast cancer compared to chemotherapy alone. Inflammatory breast cancer is a rare but highly aggressive create of the disease - the tumours move quickly often leading to the need for full mastectomies and it has a worse outlook than other breast cancers. These results presented at the European Cancer Conference (ECCO 14) in Barcelona are particularly significant as treatment with Herceptin in this setting may actually bring about to more breast conserving surgery and most importantly to potentially improved survival. “This Herceptin data is very important for women with inflammatory HER2-positive breast cancer an extremely aggressive cancer,” said Prof. Dr med. Wolfgang Eiermann. Medical Director. Red-Cross-Clinik Munich. “Women could have their tumours eradicated by treating with Herceptin and chemotherapy prior to surgery which could lead to fewer mastectomies and more importantly fewer deaths from this type of breast cancer”. HER2-positive disease is diagnosed in up to 30% of all breast cancer cases.[i] It demands special attention because the tumours are typically fast-growing and there is a high likelihood of relapse. Neoadjuvant therapy is administered to patients to help make inoperable tumours decrease and become removable thus promoting breast conserving surgery. The results from the NeOAdjuvant Herceptin (NOAH) chew over demonstrated that Herceptin plus chemotherapy led to the complete disappearance of the tumour in the breast (a pathological complete response to treatment) in nearly three times as many patients with inflammatory breast cancer (55% vs. 19% p=0.004) compared to chemotherapy alone.[ii] Furthermore the combination led to end disappearance of the tumours from both the breast and the lymph nodes (a total pathological end response to treatment) in 48% of patients compared to only 13% of those who received chemotherapy alone (p=0.002). The treatment was come up tolerated with acceptable cardiac safety. The trial is ongoing and event-free survival data are maturing. NOAH is a arrange III trial assessing neoadjuvant Herceptin in combination with chemotherapy in patients with HER2-positive locally advanced breast cancer (LABC). Patients were assigned to one of two cohorts depending on HER2 status. All patients received neoadjuvant chemotherapy before surgery consisting of three cycles of doxorubicin-paclitaxel (AT) four cycles of paclitaxel (T) and three cycles of cyclophosphamide / methotrexate / 5-fluorouracil (CMF). Patients with HER2-positive disease were randomised to acquire concomitant Herceptin for one year or chemotherapy only. Out of 228 evaluable patients with HER2-positive breast cancer that were included in the study. 61 had inflammatory breast cancer (IBC). Of the 99 evaluable patients with HER2-negative breast cancer. 14 had IBC. 31 patients with HER2-positive IBC received Herceptin in addition to chemotherapy. The analysis discussed in this news channel involves this subset of patients with inflammatory breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide.[iii] Each year more than one million new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed worldwide and nearly 400,000 populate ordain die of the disease annually.[iv] In HER2-positive breast cancer increased quantities of the HER2 protein are show on the ascend of the tumour cells. This is known as ‘HER2-positivity.’ High levels of HER2 are present in a particularly aggressive form of the disease which responds poorly to chemotherapy. Research shows that HER2-positivity affects approximately 20-30 percent of women with breast cancer. Herceptin is a humanised antibody designed to aim and block the function of HER2 a protein produced by a specific gene with cancer-causing potential. It has demonstrated efficacy in treating both early and advanced (metastatic) breast cancer. Given on its own as monotherapy as well as in combination with or following standard chemotherapy. Herceptin has been shown to improve response rates disease-free survival and overall survival while maintaining quality of life in women with HER2-positive breast cancer. Herceptin received approval for use in the European Union for advanced (metastatic) HER2-positive breast cancer in 2000 and for early HER2-positive breast cancer in 2006. In the advanced setting. Herceptin is now approved for use as a first-line therapy in combination with paclitaxel where anthracyclines are unsuitable as first-line therapy in combination with docetaxel and as a single agent in third-line therapy. It is also approved for use in combination with an aromatase inhibitor for the treatment of post-menopausal patients with HER2 and hormone receptor co-positive metastatic breast cancer. In the.

"Think Pink!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-20 02:29:38

As many of you are probably aware. October is converge Cancer awareness month. I don’t know many people who haven’t had this insidious disease touch their life in some way. Maybe a relative or a friend has had it. Maybe you have had it yourself. Maybe you are battling it now. My mother is a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with the disease some 25 years ago now. Thankfully it was caught fairly early and had not move anywhere else in her be although she did acquire a end radical mastectomy. Thankfully it has never re-occurred. She is one of the lucky ones. Because of our family history my sister and I are very much aware of converge Cancer. We both check ourselves frequently and go for regular examinations. I undergo regular mammograms. There is a form of Breast Cancer though that is rare but quite aggressive. I wanted to highlight it in this affix because you may not even be aware of it. Inflammatory converge Cancer or IBC. Inflammatory breast cancer is a rare but very aggressive type of breast cancer in which the cancer cells block the lymph vessels in the skin of the breast. This write of breast cancer is called “inflammatory” because the breast often looks swollen and red or “inflamed.” IBC accounts for 1 to 5 percent of all breast cancer cases in the United States. I’m not sure what the statistics are in the UK. It tends to be diagnosed in younger women compared to non-IBC breast cancer. It occurs more frequently and at a younger age in women of African descent than in Whites. desire other types of breast cancer. IBC can occur in men but usually at an older age than in women. Symptoms of IBC may consider redness swelling and warmth in the breast often without a distinct accumulate in the breast. The redness and warmth are caused by cancer cells blocking the lymph vessels in the skin. The climb of the breast may also appear go reddish color or bruised. The skin may also have ridges or be pitted desire the skin of an orange (called ) which is caused by a buildup of fluid and edema (swelling) in the breast. Other symptoms include heaviness burning aching increase in breast size tenderness or a nipple that is inverted (facing inward) . These symptoms usually develop quickly—over a period of weeks or months. Swollen lymph nodes may also be present under the arm above the collarbone or in both places. However it is important to say that these symptoms may also be signs of other conditions such as infection injury or other types of cancer. This write of cancer is a real killer. It’s quite aggressive and because of the symptoms often goes un-noticed and un-treated for some time before one gets alarmed. Often Doctors are not even aware of it. They may evaluate it is only an infection and treat it as such. As women and men as well we need to be aware of it and if we experience any of these symptoms at all we need to be pro-active and have it checked out immediately. Fore warned is always fore armed. I hope you’ve open this informative this morning. Be vigilant. Check yourself regularly. inform anything suspicious as soon as possible to your GP and undergo it checked out further. If you undergo a lump run don’t walk to your nearest clinic. You are never too old or too young or too female. converge cancer is no respecter of persons. It affects us all. Who doesn’t like fried chicken. It’s not that healthy for you though and is often loaded with fat and calories. Oven fried chicken is often much better for you and displace in cholesterol and calories and can taste just as good as the deep fried kind! feature the mayonnaise lemon juice salt. Worcestershire sauce hot sauce garlic powder celery salt dry mustard spice and paprika in a large furnish roll and mix well. Add chicken pieces and toss to coat. adjoin andrefrigerate for at least 4 hours (or up to 24 hours if you plan ahead). After marinating shift the chicken from the refrigerator and toss around in the mixture once again (to make sure pieces are well-coated). heat your oven to 180*C/350*F. Place the breadcrumbs and parsley in a alter dish mixing together well. Roll the marinated chicken pieces in coat mixture to cover on all sides. displace in a hit layer in a large baking pan. cook uncovered for about 45 to 55 minutes depending on the size of the chicken pieces you are using turning gently halfway through or until the juices run alter when tested with a fork. Remove to a warm platter and answer. We like to have this with mashed potatoes and gravy as a once in a blue idle interact! (In for a penny in for a hit!) What a wonderful service you've provided with this entry. I just heard about IBC about a year ago. It was featured in an bind in a magazine to which I bid. Two years ago a dear friend's wife passed away after a desire battle with breast cancer. She asked that in lieu of flowers upon her death we alter contributions to the Komen Foundation to support breast cancer research.--Sheria
