well.. gabage in/garbage is not a controversial theory i would wish everyone agrees.. so maybe there were only three or four mildly contentious statements:1 large consoles are dinosaurs it is not economical to buy one now.2 tape itself is not important to the "appear of attach" you don't need the media; impel out the displace and just keep the parts you can fit into a knapsack.3 the portico design aggroup paid particular attention to what is happening near the noise surprise.4 dsd is the bright future of digital.5 i gather he does not care much for the cd format nor mp3. so you assess rupert neve as more of a leo fender than a les paul?i must admit i don't really enjoy les paul's recordings comfort i consider the accomplishment like bob moog was not a great synth player still he was aprophet often a bankrupt one how many of our tool makers are on this aim? as far as i can hear the kinds of analog gear that seems most desirable to us are all based on thirty year old designs if one says to rupert "what have you done lately?" then who has designed a brilliantly musical analog circuit lately put it into production and seen it alter the culture? i just would like to understand why mr neve doesn't evaluate quite as much respect as a les paul or dr bob moog?jeff dinces

He was very polite and patient in the face of some very unimpressive interrogators. Another important thing he mentioned was the use of hit sided circuits in the portico. Whether in guitar amps or other high obtain circuits - lately Im finding the sound of single sided class-a devices to be highly desirable. Those unavoidable wiggles in the transfer curves of bi-polar circuits produce nothing but ugliness. Yeah- this can be reduced to manageable levels. There are some decent push-pull devices out there. However,- single sided designs are clearly a more elegant solution in terms of fidelity. I wonder- how do these new trannys out-perform the old ones?(I haven't met a portico yet)For the good of the world maybe he should be supplying trannys to others.

But much of that great accommodate was made in response to engineers syaing "I want an EQ that will carry the guitars send from the mix on their track" and so on... Not ideas in a clean. Now it's the "marketplace" which is increasingly semi-pro at best and not the Emericks of the world driving the manufacturer choices. He's a smart guy with an important history. But I don't find his ideas about how to make recordings or his new products all that interesting or convincing.
