"PCLinuxOS ? Linux for the masses" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 17:29:17

Linux generally creates an impression that if you were a geek you would undergo tried it and if you were not a geek well… . A lot has changed since the start of Linux. Its not just about about being the ultimate server. Linux has stomped into desktop territory and PCLinuxOS seems to undergo conquered it quite well. I don’t aim to create verbally a party review. I’m sure there are enough of those around the internet. Well very simple I was tired of constantly trying to alter windows bring home the bacon. Especially when you use your computer on a regular basis Windows tends to crash too often. A server is up 24 hours a day. The way most IT professionals use their computers for 12 -14 hours with different development environments tends to carry the BSOD ( blue screen of death ) up on a regular basis. I first thought I would try with Ubuntu. Ubuntu was easy to install and the migration drive was definitely alter but… once you were in Ubuntu to configure your hardware was quite difficult unless your really knew the command lie inside out. I had dabbled with Mandriva 2007 for a while and really found the hardrake ( hardware configuration tool for Mandriva) one of the easiest to use. So when I read about PCLOS on www distrowatch com I was curious. PCLOS uses hardrake too! The Toshiba A100 is an intel core 2 Duo with WLAN/ Bluetooth. I undergo been running PCLOS on this particular system over the measure 4 months. PCLOS is definitely a fantastic system. Hopefully over the next few months I ll undergo more in depth articles on how to set up different segments of PCLOS and some other linux based software I m running on my desktop. Every device on my Toshiba A100 is compatible with this distro. My only wish is that soon other hardware manufacturers other than Dell and HP ordain go away supporting OEM versions of such a great product. Having a linux desktop is good but configuring it is NOT easy !:) For those who want to look at hardware compatibility issues before setting it up http://www pclinuxoshwdb com/ XHTML: You can use these tags: <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <cite> <label> <del datetime=""> <em> <i> <q cite=""> <touch> <strong>

Hello all,I have an Asus F3T Notebook:AMD Turion64 X2 TL-52Nforce4 based m/b (MCP51 that is)SATA HDDI have two questions. First of all both AMD site and cpu-z utility express that my Turion CPU is capable of SSE3. However neither Linux (/proc/cpuinfo) nor MacOS (a communicate while booting with -v) show any presence of SSE3 (just SSE and SSE2). Any hints about what kind of patch for macosx86 I should use in this inspect?Another one about mcp51. I've googled about it and it seems there's only PATA support so no way for me to run MacOS on physical HW. comfort I want to try it out in VMWare but two successful boots finished with SIGSEGV's for lots of init apps (in fact only a few basic *NIX apps bring home the bacon) sounds like a do by patch again. Can someone back up me with a hint about what image I undergo to use on such HW andmaybe some keywords for TPB examine? &write; 2005-2007 · Site design by · Logo by · Brought over to IP. come in 2.2 by · Hosted by
